Volunteer Role Purpose

The role of the International Volunteers will be to provide oversight mentorship and coaching to the UNICEF funded project team and support the YCWL’s ongoing life skills development program for adolescents/youth. This will entail strategies development and trialing to combating barriers among adolescents and youth that hinder their access to improved friendly services. The task will include both center-based and community programs and services inclusive of adolescent/youth sexual health and clinical support services, civic education and awareness, sexual and gender based violence/exploitation and abuse prevention, gender and peace building. Importantly the post will support stakeholders including policymakers’ engagements through diverse means that address social change for enabling an environment where adolescents can attain their full potentials.

Further, volunteers will be required to network with external service providers through training and linkages of target beneficiaries needing referral services to health facilities, and strengthen strategies for building adolescent-demand sexual health rights and services.  Volunteer will ensure that awareness activities implemented for adolescents/youth are carried out on time and to a high standard; utilizing YCWL’s standard indicator checklist for ensuring quality life skills services for adolescents/youth and comply with the donor regulations for implementation and reporting.

Placement Length

The average volunteer placement is around three months which allows volunteers to establish solid relationships in the community and contribute a reasonable amount of time to the projects. It is important to recognise that, although the volunteers will benefit enormously from their experience volunteering.

Program Coordination

It is very important to maintain consistency and continuity in relationships, projects and work already underway and, to this end, we have a Volunteer Projects Manager who is responsible for all volunteers.
